SMA Sunny Boy Smart Energy is a single-phase hybrid inverter made in Germany. It manages solar and a high-voltage battery in one unit, with three MPPTs for multi-orientation roofs, up to 10 kW of battery charging and optional backup. Maximum efficiency is 98.1%.
How it works, simply: a hybrid inverter converts DC power from your panels into AC power for your home, and also manages a battery on the same unit. It decides moment to moment whether solar goes to the house, the battery or the grid.
It suits homes that want a premium German hybrid with Sunny Portal monitoring, and owners who already know SMA from earlier Sunny Boy installs.
For Queensland conditions: the manufacturer specifies an operating range of -25 to 60°C, and its enclosure rating is IP65. In hot climates many systems reduce output at the top of their range, so we install out of direct afternoon sun with clearance for airflow wherever possible.

The manufacturer lists IP65. In Queensland we still avoid direct afternoon sun where possible, because heat can reduce performance, and we'll recommend the best spot during the site visit.
