SMA Sunny Island is a 48 V battery inverter used to build off-grid and backup systems, often AC-coupled with SMA string inverters. The 8.0H class delivers about 6 kW continuous at 25°C with generator support.
How it works, simply: the inverter converts DC power from your panels into the AC power your home uses. MPPTs (maximum power point trackers) let panels on different roof faces each work at their best.
It suits off-grid properties standardised on SMA equipment that want Sunny Portal monitoring across the whole site.
For Queensland conditions: the manufacturer specifies an operating range of -25 to 60°C, and its enclosure rating is IP54. In hot climates many systems reduce output at the top of their range, so we install out of direct afternoon sun with clearance for airflow wherever possible.

The manufacturer lists IP54. In Queensland we still avoid direct afternoon sun where possible, because heat can reduce performance, and we'll recommend the best spot during the site visit.
